Jakarta, October 7, 2024 – PT Nuon Digital Indonesia ("Nuon") continues to play a pivotal role in advancing the national gaming industry by hosting a local gaming session ("MaBar") following the Coordination Meeting on the Implementation of Presidential Regulation no. 19/2024.
Held at the Sasana Bhakti Praja Building, Ministry of Home Affairs, Central Jakarta, this event was part of the Ayo HARGAI campaign under the theme "Bangga Main Gim Lokal". It marked a key moment in efforts to strengthen the domestic gaming ecosystem. Attended by top government officials, industry associations, regional leaders, and industry players, the event underscored Nuon’s commitment to accelerating Indonesia’s creative industry, particularly in gaming.
CEO of Nuon Aris Sudewo noted the dominance of foreign products in the national gaming ecosystem. “Local games only occupy 0.5% of the domestic market, a very small share compared to the 99.5% of imported games. At Nuon, we believe that Indonesia has tremendous potential in this sector, and this event is part of our efforts to foster pride in local creations while strengthening the foundation of the national gaming industry alongside stakeholders,” said Aris.
This local gaming session symbolized the importance of collaboration between the government and industry players as a key to changing market dynamics. By inviting Ministers and government officials to directly try locally-produced games like Paw Rumble and Dreadhaunt, both published by Nuon, the event aimed not only to showcase the quality of local gaming products but also to spark important discussions on the government’s role in supporting the growth of the creative industry. “We are not just talking about the gaming industry as a source of entertainment but also as a driver of the creative economy, which can become a pillar of national economic growth,” Aris continued.
In addition to showcasing local games, Nuon, in collaboration with the Asosiasi Game Indonesia (AGI) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), introduced Game Asset Nusantara (GANA), an innovative platform providing various digital assets like 3D characters and visual effects to accelerate content development for game developers and creators. GANA also serves as a marketplace, allowing creators to sell and distribute their assets commercially, supporting an inclusive and sustainable digital economy ecosystem. The platform can be accessed at https://gana.nuon.digital. This initiative is seen as a significant breakthrough, creating opportunities for local talent to grow amid tight global competition.
“Nuon is committed to continuously fostering collaboration between industry players and the government so that local games can not only compete in the domestic market but also become a source of national pride on the international stage. With the talent potential we have, it’s time for local games to emerge as a major force in Indonesia’s creative economy,” Aris concluded.
